2016 has been a pretty busy year for the CinemaCake crew!  We have experienced a lot of change, from working with fun, new clients, to launching our new website, to moving to our new home in West Conshohocken.  Here's our list of some of our favorite 2016 memories!

Winter 2016- The LemonBall

In January, CinemaCake was a sponsor for the 2016 Lemon Ball.  This was our first year joining this amazing event and the team was excited to be a part of the night.  Our crew filmed guests enjoying the event, interacting with the event sponsors and giving to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.  CinemaCake then worked with the ALSF to create a recap film that highlighted amazing moments from the speeches, live auction, and the fun on the dance floor!  This year's Lemon Ball raised over $927,000 for pediatric cancer research and the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation looks forward to raising even more funds at next year's event.

Spring 2016- "What's Baking" Web Series

All the way back in 2015, we got to work developing a fresh, new website for CinemaCake.  It was a daunting task and we are very grateful to Elyse Lupin, owner of Elysium Marketing Group and Deanna Wallace, owner of Deelicious Web Design for all of their help and guidance during the process.  As the launch date drew near, we really wanted the announcement for the new site to be fun!  Early on, we talked about a web series to tease the new site, and it quickly developed into a story line set in the CinemaCake kitchen.  The vignettes were a ton of fun to create and we had a blast watching everyone make guesses online about what the series was teasing.  Check out all of the fun vignettes we created in the collection below.

Spring 2016- Settlement School Gala

While we were putting our final touches on our website, we were also working with some of our cutest on-screen talent to date!  The Settlement School hosted their annual gala in May and this year's event was spotlighting the Pre-K program.  Since it wouldn't be possible to bring several rambunctious toddlers to a formal gala, we created this film to give the audience a taste of what a day is like at the school.  The film was a huge hit and showed how truly important arts education is for our children.

Summer 2016- WoMo Web Series

Early in 2016, Elyse Lupin, founder of the Elysium Marketing Group, and Sheryl, co-owner of CinemaCake Filmmakers, were having a conversation about the struggles of being a working mom.  They talked about how difficult it can be to go back to work after having a child and the struggles working moms continue to face.  Looking for a community to discuss these ideas further, the two women teamed up to create the Working Moms Network, or WoMo.  The focus of this network is to bring the stories of inspiring working mothers in the greater Philadelphia area to women everywhere.  Through short films shared bi-weekly, we hear first hand from the mothers who have been there and juggled that!  The interviews feature each mom's tips and tricks to work/life balance and gets honest about the struggles they face every day.  Combined with fun "Mom Fail" stories and words of encouragement, these films are designed to inspire and motivate working moms of any age.

Fall 2016- Philly Fights Cancer round 2

On October 15th, the Abramson Cancer Center hosted "Philly Fights Cancer- round 2" and the event was a total hit!  Over 1,300 people attended the star studded gala and more than 5 million dollars was raised to help in the fight.  Guests enjoyed performances from Tig Notaro, Lionel Richie, and Jennifer Hudson, and we were there to capture every amazing moment.  Check out our trailer for the event here!

As we look ahead to 2017, we cannot wait to continue working with our amazing clients and see what is in store!  We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season and CinemaCake will see you in the new year!

Having a baby changes everything...

Yes, that's the most obvious, cliche statement ever, but also completely true.  When a woman, who already carries the title of "wife" or "girlfriend" and "employee" or "co-worker", adds the title of "mommy" to her resume, a lot of things change quickly.  A new mom's priorities are completely shifted and she needs to revaluate how her time is spent.  She also needs to deal with the very real fact that when her baby reaches 12 weeks old, or even sooner for some women who cannot afford to take any time off, the mother may need to go back to work and start the constant juggling of work/life balance.

All of these changes can be daunting, but now working moms don't have to do it alone!  Elyse Lupin, founder of the Elysium Marketing Group, and Sheryl Williams, co-owner of CinemaCake Filmmakers, have teamed up to create the Working Moms Network.  The focus of the Working Moms Network, or WoMo, is to bring the stories of inspiring working mothers in the greater Philadelphia area to women everywhere.

Though short films shared bi-weekly, we hear first hand from the mothers who have been there and juggled that!  The interviews feature each mom's tips and tricks to work/life balance and gets honest about the struggles they face every day.  Combined with fun "Mom Fail" stories and words of encouragement, these films are designed to inspire and motivate working moms of any age.

The 2016 WoMo Select Participant group is an assembly of amazing women who come from various backgrounds and work in a variety of fields.  The CinemaCake team had the opportunity to interview each of the incredible members, such as Michelle Kichline, Chester County Commissioner, Nicole Cashman, President and CEO of Cashman and Associates, and Jamie Apody, sports anchor and reporter for 6ABC TV.  Check out the full list of participants HERE: http://www.womonetwork.org

Creating these films has truly been a rewarding experience for the CinemaCake team and we can't wait to begin sharing these incredible stories with you soon!  WoMo just released a sizzle reel, which you can view below, and our first interview is slated to premiere early next month.  Being a working mom is one of the toughest jobs out there, but with the help of the WoMo Network, no one has to do it alone.

The Problem:
For the past decade, the team at Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has been working tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research.  They host several events throughout the year and one of the largest events they manage is the annual Lemon Ball.  On Saturday, January 16th, 2016, ALSF was hosting the 10th annual gala and needed to create a recap film of the event.  This film would not only need to capture all of the major moments of the night, but also highlight many of the amazing and generous sponsors.  Finally, the film would need to showcase all of the fun and excitement of the event so that it could be repurposed as a marketing tool for next year's Lemon Ball.  Alex's Lemonade Stand reached out to CinemaCake Filmmakers to see how they could help.

The Solution:
CinemaCake is well known for the work they have done with non-profit organizations and has created dozens of films that highlight the important work these groups do.  At the gala, CinemaCake had a group of crew members on site capturing the event in a creative, yet inconspicuous manner.  The team filmed guests enjoying the event, interacting with the event sponsors and giving to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.  CinemaCake then worked with the ALSF to create a recap film that highlighted amazing moments from the speeches, live auction, and the fun on the dance floor!

The Results:
The recap film of the 10th annual Lemon Ball has already proved to be helpful to the ALSF.  Here is what Sarah Wright, the ALSF Special Events Coordinator, has to say about working with CinemaCake:

"I learned about CinemaCake through word of mouth, they have a wonderful reputation not only in the corporate industry but in the non-profit world. Their team was responsible for capturing the essence of our largest event of the year, The Lemon Ball. The crew members were professional, kind and non-intrusive throughout the entire event. After the recap film was complete, our team was able to make any changes we wanted and the CinemaCake team were extremely responsive. The film truly shows the spirit of the event and has helped us promote for next year. I would absolutely use CinemaCake in the future and plan to do so."

This year's Lemon Ball raised over $927,000 for pediatric cancer research and the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation looks forward to raising even more funds at next year's event.

April 27, 2016 in Social Media

You can't spend more than a minute on your Facebook Timeline without encountering a video. The amount of videos being uploaded to the #3 site on the web has grown significantly in the past year, but the most interesting stat from the Top 5 Facebook Video Statistics for 2016 is the major jump seen in video viewing.

Back in 2014, Facebook registered 1 billion video views per day among their users. Then in 2015, the rate of views exploded to 8 billion views per day. Mark Zuckerberg was also recently quoted as saying:

"In five years, Facebook will be videos"

For business owners, this simply means that if you aren't including video on your Facebook page, you are missing out! CinemaCake has been creating online video content for years now and the viewership has only continued to grow. If you want to fill your Facebook page with stunning and compelling video content, head over to our contact page and find out more!

February 26, 2016 in Time-lapses

There are always times when we wish that we could fast forward; waiting in lines, commercials on TV, or sitting in traffic. While we are still waiting to be able to skip over some boring parts of real life like Adam Sandler could in Click, we have a tool in filmmaking that already does it for video footage.

Time-lapses can turn days into minutes.  There is a growing demand for these types of films and the fast paced business world is loving fast paced films.  It is an effective and artistic technique used in famous title sequences, like House of Cards, for example.

One of our most recent corporate time-lapses was for the 250th Celebration of the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. The event was held on the upper deck of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The time-lapse ran from Sunday to Saturday and caught every moment leading up to and during the event: from the construction, to the meal prep, to the fireworks at the end of the night.

"It's a lot of work that no one can really appreciate until the film is complete.  From the crew on the ground, to our drone in the air and from our editor to our graphic designer, our team worked hard to pull this vision together for all of the vendors involved.", said Dave Williams, Partner at CinemaCake Filmmakers.

Make sure to check out the time-lapse film below!

July 29, 2015 in

Since 2001 CinemaCake has been bringing all of the excitement of events like weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and corporate events to life on film. But like Rome, it wasn't built in a day.

CinemaCake owner and president, Dave Williams, was recently interviewed by Christian Nachtrieb on team management and growth. In the interview Dave discussed starting the business, how he found and manages the CinemaCake team, and all the resources he discovered along the way.

Dave actually began his career in pharmaceutical sales with a recreational interest in videography. A coworker asked him to film her wedding, which eventually led Dave to discover his passion for filmmaking, and the rest is pretty much history.

Once Dave took the plunge into the world of filmmaking, along with CinemaCake co-owner and his wife Sheryl, he quickly discovered that filming, editing, and production were time consuming. He recruited heavily through CinemaCake's editing contests.

Managing your own business isn't always a walk in the park. Dave shared a lot of the resources and learning experiences he had while developing CinemaCake into a small business. Using networks like ShootQ and Basecamp organized communication between team members and clients. Holding the editors contests, having potential employees shadow on shoots, and demonstrating an overall sense of professionalism were just a few of the strategies that Dave and Sheryl implemented to establish the culture of CinemaCake.

Whether its in the studio or on a shoot, you can always find Dave exploring new creative strategies and leading by example. The CinemaCake team is definitely proud to call Dave and Sheryl Williams our fearless leaders. Check out the full interview below:

It is no secret that we live in an age of rapidly progressing technology. Many industries have been affected by the skyrocketing advancements in electronics, and the filmmaking industry is no exception. While new lenses or editing software is always exciting for us, one of our favorite new high tech tools at CinemaCake are quadcopters, more popularly known as drones. They help get those bird's eye view shots of events and venues.

The Inquirer recently posted a feature article on the use of drones in this industry. In the article, multiple professionals were interviewed on their opinions of drones including our CinemaCake owner, Dave Williams. In the article, Dave discussed one of our recent projects that incorporated the use of drones; a promo for The Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. The film will promote weddings and other events in Montgomery County. Dave believes it will give the promo a little something extra to encourage engaged couples to choose Montgomery County venues for their weddings.

"I think that the article was well balanced because it did the most important thing; it promoted professional pilots and safety first. Experienced operators are a must, not only for safety, but for the best shots possible." Dave said. To view the article from The Inquirer click here.

Below is a still image of a wedding venue where we have filmed and it was taken with a drone.

We look forward to seeing which kinds of new technology will be released in the future, and how we will be able to utilize them for filmmaking.
