The IVA Filmmakers Expo will be offering an industry first; a live camera/production workshop featuring a mock wedding in an actual church.

Industry leading Filmmakers, Dave Williams, Steve Fowler, Jj Kim, Steve Zugelter and Keith Anderson will show you the techniques they use to create international award winning films. They will also conduct bridal preps at the hotel and post-ceremony coverage at a local park. This will be an interactive workshop where the attendees will be participate in the demonstration.

The church session will include three segments. First, the Filmmakers will take us through the pre-production phase where they will scout the location, set up the video and audio gear and take you through their thought processes as they plan out the production. Then they will film the live event uninterrupted as if it were a real wedding. Then we will re-enact the event and the filmmakers will explain the shots and techniques, step by step. During this final phase, the attendees will be able to openly ask questions and try out the equipment and techniques as time permits.

There will also be a two hour editing workshop where the filmmakers will show you how they would edit the footage in a SDE setting. This optional second day program will elevate your skills to new heights!

Looking back on our 10 Real Questions to Ask Your Videographer post in 2008, I feel they are all still relevant and worthy of revisiting.  Here’s #5, “How long will it take to get my finished movie?” 

We regularly communicate with wedding videographers through various networks and forums.  Often I learn about videographers who regularly have a final delivery time of 8-12 months, sometimes even longer.  Their clients are understandably concerned that the editing is taking too long.  They worry that something may be wrong, especially when calls and emails about the status of their productions go unanswered as promised delivery dates are missed.

With a relatively quick delivery time (usually less than 12 weeks), CinemaCake clients have input every step of the way.  Each client gets a passcode that allows access to their online portal.:

Through this portal, our clients can be as involved as they want to be.  Our online questionnaires help us communicate with and get to know every client better.  Each project is assigned an online editor who values the input because it allows us to create a film that is more meaningful.

CinemaCake also updates a list of productions being edited so clients can follow along with the progress.  As their names float closer to the top each week, clients also have the option to view their Coming Soon Trailer.  Note: Clients who prefer complete privacy will not be listed here, nor will their Coming Soon Trailer be public.

We just got word that The Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association (GPVA) will soon be re-branding!  The new name will be The Philadelphia Filmmakers Alliance (PFA).  We certainly know all about rebranding as we did it one year ago, evolving from DVideography to CinemaCake.  Rebranding can be challenging, but if done right, very rewarding.  Stay tuned for details!

To kick off the new year with its new name, the PFA will host a great wedding and event filmmaker and a friend of mine from New York, Adam Forgione from Pennylane Productions.  Adam’s workshop for professionals in the industry will concentrate on becoming more profitabel with topics including, networking, marketing, making upscale products, running your company, inspiration, and much more.
