Last week I lectured in Melbourne, Australia at the PMA Australia 2007 Imaging Technology Expo. My lecture on Thursday covered some of the hottest trends in wedding and event video production and on Friday I held a mini hands-on workshop. Then, I was off to Sydney where I shot a beautiful Jewish wedding in Centennial Park. The reception was at Luna Park, just at the foot of Sydney’s Harbor Bridge.
This video is a behind-the-scenes look through the lens of my small palmcorder that I brought along. On my way to Melbourne, I had some time in Los Angeles to visit and have dinner with my friend David Robin of Boulevard Video Productions. The first message on the video is from Dave to an Australian videographer named Dennis Illic.
Next, it was off to Melbourne where I connected with fellow lecturers Chris Chibucos of Furlavision Productions, Natalie Neal of Glass Slipper Productions, Jenny Lehman of Jenny Lehman Film and Video, Eng Tiong Teo of Pilgrim Pictures, Ross Herewini of efilms, and WEVA‘s director of marketing, John Zale.
And finally, I took a short flight to Sydney for some sight-seeing with my blokes and to shoot a wedding with Dave and Troy of D’nM Video Productions

Smooth Moves Glidecam Workshop in Arkansas
April 26, 2007
I just want to thank the great guys at White Diamond Productions for bringing me in to teach their Glidecam Workshop. What a top-notch crew to work with! Pictured left to right, Marty, me, Chris, and Dave.

In our two-day workshop, the guys ramped up very quickly. By day two we were rolling through many exercises, including hard-mounting to Marty’s production truck and shooting throughout the studio parking lot.
Thanks for your hospitality gentlemen!

Videographer Robert Allen Interviewed on Martha Stewart Weddings
September 15, 2006
My friend Robert Allen of Robert Allen Video in New York was interviewed on Martha Stewart’s Weddings Magazine show on Sirius radio. Robert does a fantastic job explaining all aspects of wedding video.
During the show, a couple getting married at Congress Hall called in to get advice.
This is a must-listen for brides, grooms, moms and dads who have any questions about videography. Congratulations on the exposure Robert! You represent our industry well!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for coming to our meeting in CT on August 15, 2006
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to come and share your expertise with the Glidecam and some of your marketing Ideas. (The short form edit)
I have a Glidecam I bought several years ago and used for a couple of weddings and then put it away. I will be getting it back out. Thanks for producing Smooth Moves.
You are an excellent videographer and editor but even more you are an excellent business and marketing person and that’s what it takes to succeed, you can have the greatest product in the world but if you don’t know how to sell it you will always be poor. You definately have what it takes. Thanks for sharing.
Sincerely,
Tom Hickman
