Tammy: (07.03.08-12:09pm) Wow, that's beautiful! Wonderful work!
Scot Sheely, IMG Video Productions: (07.05.08-10:37pm) Dave,

You are THE MAN! That video has a lot of ''WOW'' factor for sure. I am not kidding when I say that I got goose bumps watching this. Very, very cool!

It is a perfect song choice, and your editing compliments the music hand-in-glove smooth.

I love Peri Basseri's suggestions, too, concerning starting off slow with stills in a smaller area of the screen, and then POW, full HD video, but in this case, the gentleness of the song dictates something far less shocking. I think you could easily pull off something like that, and have a single demo sell your entire package that way. If I were going to get married again, I would definitely want to hire you and your crew to cover my nuptials, and I have NEVER told another fellow videographer that, ever. I sincerely mean that, I would be proud to have you video my event ANY day!

The opening sequence is WONDERFUL. I love the first two clips, and how you kept the motion going between them, even though they are from the opposing angles (behind FIRST, then in front LAST. Very, VERY clever way to break up the usual expectations there!). Super job, Dave!

The only transition I felt was a little but jarring, or not as smooth as it possibly could be, is when the B&G are doing their first dance.

You show a wonderful, creative shot of their feet (GREAT idea!), but the transition between that shot and the very next one felt just a tad bit out of place and slightly jarring for my own personal tastes. That is where you go to a wider (actually, a medium) shot of the B&G dancing. It just sort of pops out at you, where I feel a softer transition would smooth out that section considerably. JMHO.

I appreciate you use of nat sound with the seagulls (or is that from your SFX library? Either way, it WORKS!), and although I typically shy away from the easily over-abused B&G talking during the video, you made that transition in sound so smoothly and expertly that it works perfectly. Bravo!

I get the strong feeling that you are either a musician, have musical experience, or a studio recording / engineering background. You mixed all of the audio in such an expert manner, that I would be very surprised to hear if you DIDN'T have something like that in your resume'. Very big on the WOW factor there, too, Dave! I appreciate the subtlety and finesse you used in that department. I am super impressed!

I also appreciate your command of the screen real estate, and the tight integration of photos and video. I have to agree with Peri there, that I really WAS expecting a photo or two to have some motion, at the very least, later in the production. That might have added an extra bit of impact to it, who knows.

This is definitely a cut above the usual highlights video, and worthy of some sort of special award for sure!

Thanks for sharing this, you ROCK! Great edit, Dave!

-Scot
BigTime Video Services: (07.06.08-12:36am) Lovely. You really showcased the photographer's work.

I kept waiting for one of the full screen still images to come to life with one of your signature smooth moves - but I guess if you did that you'd be showing up the photographer

The concept I was visualizing came from this memory:

Back when IMax movies first came out I remember going to see ";To Fly"; at Great America. The movie started out using a small part of the screen for the first few minutes, nice pretty images of a hot air balloon if I recall then BOOM it suddenly came full screen with the total IMax experience with swooping and flying that nearly made me airsick - Wow!

You know, the contrast of still images with full motion HD video could be a great concept for a wedding videography commercial. (in a positive way of course!)

Start out with a montage similar to what you have produced with some very simple and soft acoustic music, except all of the still images would be from HD video.
You could create some small vertical shots that look like photos.

Then after establishing this, make one of the stills turn into full widescreen HD with motion and a cinematic music score.

After seeing this promo the decision about whether or not to hire a videographer would be a no brainer!

As usual, your work inspires . .

Peri
